OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, June 13, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sandra Stanley-Ryan, MA, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Ms. Stanley-Ryan is now retired after a long and successful career teaching courses in Music, Interior Design and Humanities. In 1991 at the University of Central Oklahoma, she became the Graduate Assistant to the Chairman of the Art Department and assisted him with a large group tour to Italy. She received an Oklahoma Art League Scholarship for her Thesis research year.
Sandra earned an MA with Honors in Museum Studies/Art History in 1994. Immediately, Sandra was hired as a "Visiting Professor" in Interior Design for the Gibbs College of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma. She also took students in Design and Architecture on teaching tours to Italy and Northern New Mexico. Following that position, Ms. Stanley-Ryan became a "Lecturer" in History of Interior Design, continuing with a full-time Lectureship in "Humanities" at the University of Central Oklahoma for several years.
During an early stage of her career, Sandra worked at Harvard in the Administration for the Dean of Arts and Sciences. She served as Faculty Secretary for the Summer School. Then she served as the Corporate Researcher in a significant development program for Harvard College. While working at Harvard, Sandra pursued her original career in vocal music. She began her degree at the University of Oklahoma and received a B.Music from Converse College in 1964. In Boston, Sandra studied with Russian Coach Olga Averino, who also gave master classes at Harvard. Sandra held a professional position with the Harvard Memorial Church Choir in Harvard Yard and was soprano soloist for the dedication of Harvard's new Fiske Organ (Columbia Records). She sang with jazz musician Duke Ellington in the performance of his "First Jazz Mass." Ms. Stanley-Ryan was hired as Chairman of the Music Department at The Park School, a private Day School, teaching for two years before returning to Oklahoma.
Oklahoma opened a new career path for Sandra in Interior Design inspired by her time in Boston. She worked for five years in Home Furnishings and completed her studies in Interior Design at the University of Oklahoma. In 1976 Sandra Stanley Interiors began. By 1980 she moved to Oklahoma City and participated in the first of her twelve Decorator Showhouse rooms to benefit the Oklahoma City Symphony. Some of the houses were on the National Register of Historic Places. This allowed her to use her knowledge of "period design" and antiques. Sandra's design work was featured in Newspapers and Design Magazines. Her work included Residential, Historic Preservation, Commercial and Medical Design. She worked interstate in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. One of her jobs was the renovation of the Oliver Hodge Building at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
Photography became an integral part of her travels exploring the drama of architecture and design. Ms. Stanley-Ryan enjoyed several one-woman Gallery Shows including the Lesley Powell Gallery in Lawton, OK; The Donna Nigh Gallery at the University of Central Oklahoma; and the Edmond Arts Festival, where she placed Second in Show. The American Heart Association, the Oklahoma Arthritis Foundation, and the Art Auction of the Oklahoma City Art Museum all included her work in their special shows. Sandra exhibited with 50 Penn Place Gallery for several years as a member. Decorative Arts of Oklahoma represented Ms. Stanley Ryan in the Markets of Highpoint, NC; Dallas, TX; and Los Angeles, CA, where they sold signed, numbered limited editions of her photographs internationally.
Ms. Stanley-Ryan belongs to the Oklahoma Art League now and has served on the Board. She was a member of Canterbury Choral Society for several years and served on the Board. Sandra participated in the Western History Association and the New Mexico Art Historian Council.
Other memberships include Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae, Mu Phi Epsilon (honorary music) and Phi Alpha Theta (honorary history). She is listed in several professional Who's Who Publications and the Directory of Oklahoma Artists (2007).
