Before his current role, Mr. Echols served as the HOPE Mentoring Program Director at the Kansas Department for Children and Families from 2015 through 2017. During that time, he was responsible for guiding families through mentorship efforts designed to empower them for a productive quality of life. He previously served as Oklahoma State Affirmative Action Officer and a senior member of the governor's staff there. A commitment to public service, policy development and equality of opportunity for all citizens marked his tenure in government.
Mr. Echols' career is also notable for his extensive military service. As a member of the U.S. Army, Oklahoma Army National Guard, and U.S. Army Reserve for 25 years, he demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership, earning the prestigious U.S. Army Bronze Star as a twenty-year-old Specialist Five in the Republic of Vietnam. Retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class, his military background gave him a unique perspective on leadership and teamwork, which he has applied effectively to his civilian endeavors.
An active member of several industry-related organizations, Mr. Echols serves on the Kansas State Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and holds memberships in several state chambers across the United States. He is also a National Partner (workforce development issues) for 2024 with the National Association of State Chambers of Commerce (NASC), and he serves as the Chairman of the Workforce Development & Mentoring Subcommittee of the Kansas City Kansas Community College Downtown Advisory Council.
Mr. Echols' educational background includes a B.A. in political science and public service from the University of Central Oklahoma, earned in 1981. He attributes his life's success to faith in God, support from family and friends, and diverse & inclusive professional relationships.
Beyond his professional involvement, Mr. Echols has made significant contributions to civic organizations. He has served as a volunteer mentor for "returning citizens" reentry to society, and he currently serves as the Chief Development Officer for Reaching Out From Within, Inc., which provides services for returning citizens. He serves as Chairman of the Breidenthal Boys & Girls Club in Kansas City, KS, as a Trustee with Floods of Joy Missionary Baptist Church, and as a Member of Jobs for Americas Graduates (KS).
