He also obtained a Master of Science at Binghamton University, in the State University of New York system, and a Bachelor of Science in microelectronics engineering from Fudan University in Shanghai, China.

He has also served as reviewers for many prestigious journals in his professional field. He also holds over 30 U.S. patents pertaining to his work in microelectronics and silicon technologies.
Dr. Zheng is an active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Materials Research Society and the Optical Society of America, along with his role as a senior member of the IEEE.
