Mr. Clem is a sales and manufacturing executive celebrating nearly six decades of success marketing industrial components. He holds an associate degree in business administration from the International Business College, and completed additional coursework in finance before leaving the school. Throughout his career, Mr. Clem has pursued additional educational opportunities in order to remain at the top of his field, studying at institutions including Gaston College and Indiana University.
In 1967, Mr. Clem began his career in the manufacturing sector as a sales representative specializing in industrial o-rings. Within a year, he had transformed his division into the second-highest sales division in the company, earning a reputation for his natural sales aptitude and easy rapport with clients and colleagues. Mr. Clem continued to excel selling o-rings until 1970, when he departed the company to pursue independent entrepreneurship. With the gift of $1,000 in startup funding from his father, Mr. Clem founded Continental International, a private-label manufacturer of custom-molded seals and other rubber parts serving the automotive industry. Within two years, the company had tripled its annual revenue, and under Mr. Clem's guidance, it continued to see steady year-over-year growth of more than 40%. Since its inception, Continental International has grown to employ a team of 25 employees based in a 30,000 square foot facility based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in addition to manufacturing and distribution partnerships with companies around the globe.
In recognition of his business acumen and contributions to the Fort Wayne area economy, Mr. Clem was named to the Business Hall of Fame and Best of Fort Wayne list for industrial distribution for 13 consecutive years, and he is an eight-time recipient of a major automotive manufacturer's supplier of the year award. As an expert in his line of work, Mr. Clem has taught sales and business classes to students at a local college, where he emphasizes the need for resilience, persistence, and communication skills. Currently, Mr. Clem remains active in long-term strategy, financial planning, and research and development at Continental International, and is proud to work alongside his two daughters, who serve as the company head and purchasing agent respectively. He is gratified to have built Continental International into a family company with a strong culture of care for its employees, and fondly remembers reaching a point in his career that allowed him to purchase a lake house as a gift for his elderly parents.
Mr. Clem's research efforts have yielded more than a dozen new prototype products for a range of applications, including a climate-controlled cat door. He is an avid collector of antiques and fine art, and enjoys fine dining and relaxing by fishing and playing euchre.
