Elizabeth A. Baker Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

Elizabeth Baker channels years of expertise into her work with the Texas Education Agency



She takes the most pride in facilitating the rewriting of science standards online in 2019-2021, and they will soon be implemented in classrooms throughout the state.

    BUDA, TX, June 20, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elizabeth Baker has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected based on current reference value. A seasoned educator with a proven track record of success in assessment development, mentoring, educational technology, and instructional systems design, Ms. Baker excels as a secondary science curriculum specialist with the Texas Education Agency. In this capacity, she oversees educational standards for grades six through 12 throughout the state. Ms. Baker has facilitated diverse teams in revising and rewriting curriculum standards, coordinates the Texas Environmental Education Advisory Committee and the Presidential Award of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching Program, analyzes bills filed with the state legislature, and responds to science curriculum, graduation requirements, and credit by exam queries.

Previously, Ms. Baker worked for the Texas Education Agency as a science assessment specialist where she developed assessment items and exams for the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) and STAAR End of Course (EOC) in grades 5, 8, and Biology.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Baker designed science and engineering curricula as a STEM program specialist for the Girl Scouts of Central Texas.She also gained valuable expertise as a lead teacher and department chair for the Austin Independent School District, as an Aldine Independent School District science teacher, and as a medical microbiology and immunology research assistant with the University of Texas at Houston's Health Science Center and Texas A&M University.

An expert in her field, Ms. Baker holds a Bachelor of Science in microbiology and chemistry from Texas A&M University and a Master of Arts in STEM Education from The University of Texas at Austin. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, she aligns herself with several industry organizations, including the Council of State Science Supervisors and the Science Teachers Association of Texas, through which she has dedicated herself since 2001. In conjunction with her work, Ms. Baker contributes to her community through the Girl Scouts of Central Texas, the Society for Creative Anachronism, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Ms. Baker has contributed to various publications, including "VRaA (BBI16) protein of Borrelia burgdorferi is a surface-exposed antigen with a repetitive motif that confers partial protection against experimental Lyme borreliosis." While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in facilitating the rewriting of science standards online in 2019-2021, and they will soon be implemented in classrooms throughout the state. Ms. Baker is excited to present the Science Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Guide for the Texas Education Agency, designed to provide a consistent and clear interpretation of the new science TEKS so that all science educators in Texas have the same understanding of the standards.

Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, Ms. Baker credits her success to her desire for continuous learning and improvement. Within the coming years, she intends to increase collaboration among the scientific leadership in Texas.
