Dr. Trotman Scott is The Octopus Agency LLC's founder and chief executive officer. She holds a Bachelor of Science in special education, a master's degree in technology education, and a doctorate in urban, gifted, and special education, all from The Ohio State University. While working toward her master's and doctorate degrees, she worked in PK–12 education, as a teacher for nearly 10 years and then as a principal for two.
Within the realm of education, Dr. Trotman Scott continued to rise in the ranks and served as a superintendent from 2004 to 2006. Thereafter, she entered academia at the university level at the University of West Georgia, first working as an assistant professor of special education, a position she started in 2006, earned tenure and was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 2013, and then promoted to the rank of professor and was appointed as the director of graduate affairs. Currently, she is working in the Higher Education Administration program, which focuses on assisting and guiding doctoral students through their dissertation process. In 2021, she launched The Octopus Agency, LCC, which offers leadership development, consulting, and coaching for leaders and high performers who want to maximize productivity via effective and inclusive practices while achieving work-life integration.
For her work in the field of education, Dr. Trotman Scott has received several awards, including the Council for Exceptional Children and the Association for the Gifted's Diversity Award, of which she is a member. She has earned the Founder's Award from Research, Advocacy, Collaboration, and Empowerment (R.A.C.E.) Mentoring. In addition, she is a member of the American Education Research Association and devotes her time as a board member for the National Association for Gifted Children. In all she has accomplished, she attributes her success to her collaborative efforts, which have proven to be mutually beneficial, as she works with individuals to overcome challenges and achieve shared goals.
Through mentorship and reciprocity, Dr. Trotman Scott has formed meaningful partnerships that have enabled her to succeed in her field. While she has achieved many notable accomplishments throughout her career, she considers her decision to establish her own business to be the most significant one thus far. Outside of her career, her greatest source of pride and accomplishment in life is being a devoted wife and mother.
