Susan Yake Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Nutrition

Susan Yake lends years of expertise to her work with the eponymous Susan Yake Nutrition



Ms. Yake intends to continue helping people maintain good health and utilize genetics and functional medicine to prevent diseases and reduce human suffering.

    BREMERTON, WA, June 20, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan Yake has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Drawing on years of professional experience in nutrition and dietetics, Ms. Yake excels as a clinical dietitian nutritionist establishing her own practice, Susan Yake Nutrition, in 2018. Dedicated to her country, she worked as a clinical dietitian and diabetes educator with Naval Hospital Bremerton for 28 years. She has developed, implemented, and monitored nutritional care plans for clients, ordered labs as necessary, and provided nutrition education for family practice residents. Similarly, she has helped prepare obese patients for bariatric surgery and follow-up care by utilizing behavior modification and relapse prevention to maintain lifestyle changes.

Ms. Yake was elected as chair for the Diabetes Care and Education Dietetic Practice Group (DCE) now known as the Diabetes Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She led DCE for three years implementing the revision of the scope of practice standards used internationally and publishing the peer reviewed On the Cutting Edge, a continuing education for dietitians and diabetes educators. Under her leadership DCE held webinars on diabetes care, organize live professional events, recognized outstanding healthcare providers contributing diabetes care, translated diabetes handouts into Spanish and Mandarin, and revised the Academy's "Managing Diabetes: Educational Handouts and Resources" into electronic format. She gained valuable expertise in this leadership position which awarded her the opportunity to be a consultant with DayTwo, a company based on the cutting edge of technology that predicts the personalized glycemic response to food based on a person's microbiome.

During the early stages of her career, Ms. Yake held various clinical and directorial roles with Martha and Mary Nursing Home, Everett General Hospital, and Brigham Young University Health Center. An expert in her field, she holds an associate degree in food and nutrition and a Bachelor of Science in dietetics from Brigham Young University. Subsequently, Ms. Yake became a certified diabetes care and education specialist, a registered dietitian nutritionist with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, a certified dietitian in Washington State, a certified lifestyle counselor, and a certified LEAP therapist and holds a certificate of training in adult weight management. Currently she is taking advanced nutrition courses to become Functional Medicine Nutritionist (FMNS) learning how to identify the cause of illness to help reverse or prevent disease.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Ms. Yake aligns herself with the American Diabetes Association, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, the Washington Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Society of Nutrition, and many others. Given her professional achievements, she has been honored many times, earning the Heroes of Tricare Award from the Pentagon Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, the Navy Surgeon General Blue Health Promotion and Wellness Award, the Seattle Federal Executive Board's Public Service Award, Diabetes Care and Education Practice Group Legislative Activity Award, American Dietetic Association Award for Excellence in Grassroots Political Action, and the Eagle Award for Grassroots Political Action. Likewise, Ms. Yake was named the Outstanding Dietitian of the Year for Washington State. She is recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for her years of service to the organization.

Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Ms. Yake has contributed to numerous articles, papers, and presentations, including "Bring Nutrition to the Table in Washington State" and "Cutting Edge – DCE Diabetes and Tough Economic Times." While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in working with many dedicated healthcare professionals to improve lives of others through advancing medical knowledge and expertise and striving to make these services available to more people who need it.
