Hailing from over three decades of excellence in the field of accounting, Ms. Lukow first worked as an accountant in various departments at the Thriftway Marketing Corporation from 1984 to 1993. Taking inspiration from the example of her parents, Ms. Lukow started her journey into accounting by helping out at her mother's office, which served as a corporate backend for a chain of convenience stores. Introduced to the basics of accounting, and discovering a love for numbers, she graduated early from high school and oriented her career plans accordingly. She earned an Associate of Arts from San Juan College in 1989 and a Bachelor of Arts in Management from the University of Phoenix in 1991.
After achieving a 99.4% score in an H&R Block tax examination, Ms. Lukow established Precision Business Services and a tax office, PBS Tax Service, which she operated from 1993 to 2001. Well-regarded for her level of accuracy, Ms. Lukow was recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as the Exemplary Electronic Return Originator for the State of New Mexico in 2000. During these years, she had started yearning to become a CPA, so she sold the business to Jackson Hewitt to pursue this goal.
After taking additional accounting classes and completing a CPA exam review program, Ms. Lukow felt she was ready to realize her goal of CPA certification. She took the final pencil-and-paper CPA exam in November of 2003, and passed all four sections on the first attempt. She subsequently joined Chandler & Co. LLP and became a partner during her time with the firm between 2004 and 2010. At that point, Ms. Lukow resolved to embark on a new independent venture, resulting in the establishment of Sonia Lukow CPA LLC, which provides tax preparation and planning for individuals and businesses, full-service accounting and payroll, QuickBooks support, and business consulting.

In addition to her primary roles, Ms. Lukow has been a QuickBooks ProAdvisor since 2004 and is also a notary public. She is a member of several industry organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New Mexico CPA Society and the San Juan Basin CPAs. She also serves as treasurer for the Butler Professional Center in Farmington and maintains an affiliation with Four Corners Economic Development Inc., a public-private partnership that seeks to build a prosperous economic future for San Juan County.
Ms. Lukow's commitment to community service is evident through her involvement with various civic organizations, including being on the board of the Volunteer Incentive Program in Farmington, a nonprofit that helps youth to raise funds while serving their community. In earlier years, she was on the board of the San Juan Center for Independence, a community nonprofit that seeks to support those living with disabilities in the local area. Additionally, Ms. Lukow served as treasurer for many years at the Zion Lutheran Church in Farmington, where she is also a member.
In accounting for her success, Ms. Lukow credits her commitment to integrity and a positive mindset, as well as having exceptional employees and a supportive husband. Married in 1989, Ms. Lukow and her husband Mark have three sons, Matthew, David, and Steven. Looking ahead, she plans to bring on one or two partners to enhance efficiency, accuracy and service to clients at her firm. Her long-term goal is to continue developing the firm and to eventually transfer ownership to partner certified public accountants within the next decade or so.
