From 2006 to 2014, he was a visiting assistant professor at the University of North Florida. His early academic career began as a graduate teaching associate and assistant at the University of Florida. Through these advancements, he has found success through dedication, hard work, and the unwavering support of his family.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Caverly has a notable military background. He has been a soldier in the Georgia State Defense Force since 2016 and holds the rank of sergeant first class in the National Guard. His dedication to service is further exemplified by his membership in several industry-related organizations, including the Northeastern Political Science Association, Association of the Georgia State Defense Force, American Historical Association, American Political Science Association, Southern Political Science Association, National Education Association, Florida Farm Bureau, American Federation of Teachers, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Caverly's educational background is extensive and diverse. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in political science from the University of Florida in 2008 and a Master of Arts in teaching from the same institution in 2001. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from the University of Florida in 1999 and obtained an Associate of Arts in general studies from Santa Fe Community College in 1995. Additionally, he completed coursework in philosophy and economics at City College of New York (CUNY) in 2011. He is certified as an emergency management specialist from the State Guard Association of the United States and has earned myriad certifications in first aid, emergency medical responder, and search and rescue missions.
Among Dr. Caverly's numerous accolades are being named Educator of the Year by the University of North Florida Student Government for two consecutive years and receiving the Georgia Meritorious Service Medal from the Georgia State Defense Force. He has also been recognized on the Dean's List multiple times throughout his academic career.
Outside his professional life, Dr. Caverly enjoys exercising, jogging, swimming, reading, visiting coffee houses, and collecting comic books. As his demanding teaching schedule allows, he is busily working on another book that he hopes to publish soon. Looking forward, he aims to achieve promotion to associate professor with tenure at Middle Georgia State University and advance to master sergeant in his military career before retiring at that rank.
