Having begun his tenured career in the 1970s as the director of instruction at a local diesel technician's school. Mr. Woodby transitioned to a service manager at local dealerships during the 1970s. From 1980 to 1985, he worked in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he progressed from a mechanic to director of maintenance. In 1985, Mr. Woodby joined TCT Inc/ATE-Ryder/First Transit in Dallas as the Director of Maintenance. This 204 bus fleet was added to another fleet already at TCT/Ryder, bringing the total to over 350 buses.
During his tenure there, he played a pivotal role in maintaining this bus fleet, purchased by the local public agency and operated by the private sector company TCT. The mechanical condition and appearance proved to meet and exceed the high standards set by the local public transit agency. This led to a trademark of reliable vehicles. This successful operation continued for 15 years.
In 2000, Mr. Woodby became the bus maintenance manager at Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, a position he held until 2004. At the NFTA he increased the miles between failures from 2500 to 5000 miles. He then served as the maintenance director at Capital Metro from 2004 to 2014. There, increasing the reliability and improved the condition of the fleet significantly, before taking on the same role at VIA Metropolitan Transit until his retirement in 2021. Throughout his career,Mr. Woodby's educational background included coursework in electrical and electronics engineering at Michigan State University and coursework in business administration and management at Washtenaw Community College. Furthermore, he holds ASE certifications in HD Truck Mechanic from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, further underscoring his expertise in the field.
Mr. Woodby attributes his success to his deep understanding of the job and his dedication to ensuring that tasks are carried out correctly. He has become well-known in the industry for developing detailed bus specifications for all types, and brands of vehicles, from diesel, CNG, to electric.
Mr. Woodby is currently engaged with private organizations in operating bus fleets, procuring vehicles, and problem solving bus reliability issues.
