Marquis Who's Who Honors John M. Marasco for Expertise in Real Estate

John M. Marasco serves as the Chief Development Officer for Security Properties



Under Mr. Marasco's leadership over the last 10-plus years, Security Properties has built over 2,000 units in sustainable buildings worth approximately $1 billion.

Having spent more than 30 years with Security Properties, Mr. Marasco has climbed to the position of Chief Development Officer. He joined the Seattle-based real estate company in 1992 as a development project manager and then a managing director before accepting his current role in 2007. Mr. Marasco also serves on the board of managers and investment committee for Security Properties, demonstrating his deep commitment to the company. His day-to-day work focuses on managing the pipeline of projects in development and under construction. Under Mr. Marasco's leadership over the last 10-plus years, Security Properties has built over 2,000 units in sustainable buildings worth approximately $1 billion. He has also helped expand the company to include mixed-use and retail real estate development in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Chicago.

Mr. Marasco's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science from the University of Oregon and graduate coursework in civil engineering completed at the University of Washington.
He also earned certification in real estate from the University of Washington and holds a real estate broker's license in the state of Washington. Mr. Marasco attributes his success to careful planning together with a small amount of luck. He believes his accomplishments have been driven by thorough due diligence in identifying and addressing potential issues before embarking on new projects, as well as cultivating strong relationships with development teams and investors.

In addition to his main responsibilities, Mr. Marasco maintains membership in the Urban Land Institute, demonstrating his commitment to a thoughtful, high-quality approach to real estate and land use having co-chaired the local chapter's work force housing task force. His expertise has been recognized through such awards as the Jack Kemp Award for Excellence and Project of the Year, Best Mixed Use Community by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). He has also been recognized in articles by the New York Times for his redevelopment activities incorporating thoughtful urban design for a variety of uses, including grocery and housing.

Beyond his career, Mr. Marasco is a devoted father to two children. He enjoys traveling, working on cars, and tasting and learning about wine. Looking to the future, Mr. Marasco intends to continue his esteemed work with Security Properties as he begins transitioning into retirement in the coming years. His work has left a lasting impact on the real estate markets in Seattle and Portland and beyond.
