Having previously spent over five years at IBM, Mr. Bhowmick was the Vice President and Chief Design Officer of IBM Hybrid Cloud, Automaton, Data, and AI platforms from 2015 to 2021 and the chief design officer of IBM Software products between 2021 and 2022. His career also included working for Progress Software from 2013 to 2015 as the Vice President of user experience and product design. Earlier in his career, Mr. Bhowmick made several significant contributions to Oracle between 2000 and 2013, rising from a senior user researcher to several managerial roles before becoming a senior director of the cloud applications user experience.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Bhowmick earned a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering and Management in India, and a Master of Science in Human Computer Interaction from Clemson University in 2000. Throughout his career, Mr. Bhowmick has been recognized as an expert in creating solution services and products for users using human-centered principles. He has obtained more than 15 design patents, underscoring his innovative contributions to the design field, and has contributed over 20 professional publications on topics related to his field. Recognized through numerous awards throughout his career, most recently Clemson University named Mr. Bhowmick a Distinguished Alumni in 2024. He also led design teams to win over 65 international design awards, including the iF Awards and Red Dot Design Awards.
Mr. Bhowmick is not merely a design leader, he's a craftsman who takes deep-rooted pride in simplifying complexity through the medium of design and technology to drive business and human outcomes. He is also a founding member and board advisor of the Design Executive Council, an independent entity by design leaders for design leaders, founded with the genuine intent to champion the advancement of design leadership. Mr. Bhowmick is also a member of the highly prestigious Mensa. Outside his professional endeavors, he is actively involved with voluntary work through board advisory roles in non profit organizations reflecting his commitment to civic and social engagement.
