A certified professional librarian in Virginia, Mr. Gill accrued more than three decades of excellence in academia before his retirement in 2010. Joining the faculty of James Madison University in 1974, he served as an instructor, assistant professor, associate professor and full professor before attaining emeritus status. Likewise, he was a librarian in such specialties as catalog, law, reference, business reference and government documents, as well as the head of reference and government documents. Notably, he established the business section of the American Library Association, which bestowed upon him the Excellence in Business Librarianship Award in 1991.
