Ms. Thomas has carved out a distinguished career in the field of healthcare operations leadership. She currently serves as associate vice president at HCA Healthcare, where she directs clinical operations for more than 100 urgent cares across the state of Florida and oversees 1,200 employees. Ms. Thomas has direct oversight of clinic operations, facilities management, physician and support team scheduling, and project and reputation management. She specializes in care transformation and has a background in value-based care and healthcare economics. She is an advocate for the employee and patient experience, has top quartile employee engagement scores, and drives a culture of accountability based in compassion and excellence. This approach has driven Ms. Thomas' own career forward while simultaneously bringing each team she has worked with to a higher level of quality and service.
Prior to joining HCA Healthcare, Ms. Thomas spent more than 15 years in various positions at the Cleveland Clinic health system, including her ultimate role of senior clinical administrator in Cleveland Clinic Community Primary Care. In this role, she managed 60 primary care locations, worked with 600 providers, and directed over 1 million primary care visits annually. Ms. Thomas also led the Cleveland Clinic's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, built out and scaled testing capacity, and directed the strategy for converting to digital health by introducing and enhancing both asynchronous and synchronous visits. In 72 hours, she trained 350 clinicians across all specialities on how to facilitate telehealth care visits. Some of her earlier positions with Cleveland Clinic include specialty care and joint venture administrator within the Cleveland Clinic Urological and Kidney Institute, administrative director at the Cleveland Clinic Operations Institute and intelligence analyst in the Department of Protective Services.
Ms. Thomas' impressive education is the foundation for her successful career. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Intelligence Analysis with a minor in Spanish from Mercyhurst University in 2006 and joined the Spanish National Honor Society during her undergraduate academic journey. Ms. Thomas then earned a Master of Business Administration in Systems Thinking from Baldwin Wallace University in 2010. She has a certification in Leadership and Negotiation from the Harvard Law School executive education program in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She attributes her achievements to hard work, perseverance, and the honesty of her mentors.
Ms. Thomas has authored a number of articles contributing to the wider field of healthcare operations. Most notably, she wrote a piece for Becker's Hospital Review about how Cleveland Clinic rapidly scaled its telehealth efforts to handle the pandemic, which was disseminated by the US White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Julianne also contributed to a white paper on best practices in crisis management for the U.S. Department of State. She published her first article in 2011, which focuses on how to transform raw data into action, and use inductive and deductive reasoning skills to find isotropic connections.
Beyond her career, Ms. Thomas enjoys spending time with her beloved son Mitchell, and her family in Cleveland, OH. She has found time to give back to the community by coaching little league baseball and youth basketball. She was a True2U mentor at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. The mentorship program aims to increase the percent of 8th grade students who complete high school. Looking ahead, Ms. Thomas hopes to continue to work as an executive in healthcare operations and eventually move into a chief operator role. Whatever her position, she intends to continue leading care transformation, empowering her team, and impacting healthcare outcomes for patients across that care continuum.
