Her work with Health Literacy 360 includes training healthcare providers, laypersons and organizations on health literacy principles through keynote and plenary presentations, workshops, and consultations.
Prior to branching out on her own, Ms. Komondor spent nearly 25 years as the director of Organizational Development and the Health Literacy Institute at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio In this capacity, she was instrumental in advancing health literacy initiatives within the organization and the broader community. Her work at St Vincent's gave her an insider's view of the intricacies of the modern healthcare system and the barriers that patients face. That led her to create Health Literacy 360 — out of a recognition that the health care system had become too complex for any one person to understand on their own.
Ms. Komondor's commitment to health literacy is extensive. She is a co-founder and immediate past president of Ohio Health Literacy Partners, a nonprofit coalition she has been involved with since 2013. Additionally, she serves as chair of the National Council to Improve Patient Safety Through Health Literacy. She finds her passion not only from clinical experiences but her personal ones as well: Three of her siblings were all diagnosed with a chronic, debilitating disease in their 30s. For nearly two decades, she found herself struggling alongside them in navigating the complexities of the current system, Her siblings passed away from the disease, but Ms. Komondor continues her mission in their memory: improve the modern-day US healthcare system. To that end, she is in the process of forming a United States health literacy association.
Ms. Komondor graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio University. This educational foundation provided her with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in health literacy advocacy. She attributes her success to reaching out to other experts in her field, being open to sharing with colleagues, and fostering collaborative efforts.
Ms. Komondor's contributions have been recognized through various awards and nominations. She was nominated for the Dykes Health Care Provider of the Year award and received the Literacy Annual Award in 2015. Her involvement with civic-minded organizations includes serving on the steering committee of the Sister Ignatia Institute.
Outside of her professional life, Ms. Komondor enjoys connecting with family and friends, exploring nature through hiking, cooking, and traveling with her husband.
