Dr. Hughes-Evans is the founder and chief executive officer of Pure Momentum Consulting, a firm dedicated to providing management and operations consulting for nonprofit agencies. Since establishing the company in 2006, Dr. Hughes-Evans has been instrumental in supporting organizations that serve marginalized and vulnerable communities. Her expertise in retention strategy, market analysis, process improvement, and cost containment has been pivotal in helping nonprofits develop sustainable organizational systems and structures.
Outside of her work at Pure Momentum, Dr. Hughes-Evans is a relationship coach with her own company, Layla Blooming Coaching, which she opened in 2021. With Layla Blooming, she coaches, trains, and speaks about how to build nurturing relationships, both personally and professionally. Dr. Hughes-Evans takes pride in working with women to help them find and maintain healthy relationships. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Indiana Wesleyan University; was the director of residential services at Advent Group Ministries; and served as a clinical support specialist and STAT program administrator for the West Coast Children's Clinic.
Dr. Hughes-Evans has placed an emphasis on education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and psychology from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, a Master of Arts in education, with a focus on instructional leadership, from Argosy University, and a Doctor of Education in organizational leadership from Argosy in 2016. Her commitment to continuous learning is evident through her numerous certifications earned over the past decade.
Dr. Hughes-Evans is the author of a book, "Organizational Poverty: Valuing Human Capital in Non-Profit Settings," published in 2018. Her professional affiliations include memberships in the Tri-Valley NonProfit Alliance, the National Black Chamber of Commerce, the United Nations Association of the United States of America, and the Society of Human Resource Management. Additionally, she is a fellow at the Institute for Leadership and Values at Maryville University. Dr. Hughes-Evans also served as a board member for World Hope International from 2018 to 2020 and as a commissioner for the City of El Cerrito Human Relations Commission from 2015 to 2017.
In a career filled with highlights, Dr. Hughes-Evans is particularly proud of her philanthropic efforts. Recently, she completed the inaugural grant cycle for nonprofits through Pure Momentum Consulting, awarding $5,000 in charitable donations to organizations dedicated to serving children and families.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Hughes-Evans enjoys reading and learning about a multitude of subjects by taking classes with The Great Courses, an online education platform offering video lectures from experts and professors. She also likes exploring history, spending time with friends, and has a fascination with weddings and all things Hallmark. Looking ahead, she is excited about expanding her business nationwide and enhancing her public speaking engagements. She also plans to obtain an Employment Law Certification from Cornell University to further bolster her professional credentials.
