Ms. Sorensen has dedicated her life to making a positive impact on the lives of others, particularly through her work in education and community service. She had a distinguished career as an educator and testing administrator at John Bowne High School from 1984 to 2009. During this time, she inspired and supported students from diverse backgrounds, maintaining strong connections with many of them even after 25 years. Her dedication to her students' success is one of her proudest achievements.

Even before Ms. Sorensen retired from education in 2009, she started her second career: as the president of Hyde Park Gardens, a co-operative property in the Kew Gardens Hills section of Queens. She has served in that role for the past two decades. She continuously aims to further develop Hyde Park Gardens as its president, striving for its greater success and improvement.

Ms. Sorensen's academic journey began with coursework at Los Angeles City College in 1974.
She then earned a Bachelor of Arts from Queens College, City University of New York, in 1991, followed by a Master of Science from the same institution in 1994. She also completed a postgraduate degree in administration at Queens College. Ms. Sorensen credits her achievements to her unwavering perseverance and desire to overcome childhood challenges, aiming to motivate and inspire others, especially students, through her own experiences.

In addition to her long career as an educator, Mrs. Sorensen has also contributed significantly to other fields. She worked with the Women's Issues and Addiction Clinic in California for six years. Earlier in her career, she was a commercial artist in the advertising industry, showcasing her versatility and wide-ranging talents.

Beyond her professional life, Ms. Sorensen is actively involved with civic-minded organizations such as the Presidents Co-operative & Condominium Council, and volunteers with local animal rescue groups. Her dedication to these causes highlights her commitment to community service and animal welfare.

A mother and grandmother, Ms. Sorensen enjoys playing tennis, running, spending time outdoors, hiking, and rescuing animals. Her multifaceted career and personal interests demonstrate her dedication to making a positive impact on both individuals and the broader community. Her perseverance and passion continue to inspire those around her as she works towards achieving even greater success in the future.
