Across the last 20 years, Ms. Phillips has carved out a distinguished career in health care. Currently she serves as the director of nursing for AdventHealth Lake Wales and the interim chief nursing officer for AdventHealth's West Florida Division. Ms. Phillips joined AdventHealth in 2020 in the position of director of emergency services. As the director of nursing, she oversees multiple managers and plays a crucial role in running three units with more than 80 beds. Ms. Phillips takes particular pride in coaching the younger nurses she works with, maximizing employee potential and ensuring high-quality service through compassionate mentorship. She considers working with her team through the COVID-19 pandemic to be the most significant achievement of her career.
Before starting with AdventHealth, Ms. Phillips held such roles as director of emergency services at Turkey Creek Medical Center, clinical educator at Tennova Healthcare and nursing staff development specialist at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. She built her reputation in nursing as a charge nurse at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center and as a staff nurse at Blount Memorial Hospital and the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Ms. Phillips had foundational experience in the health care field working at a nursing home at the age of 19. Her early jobs helped build the knowledge necessary to excel in her current leadership roles.
Ms. Phillips' leadership was also made possible by a strong educational background. She received an Associate of Applied Science in registered nursing from Walters State Community College in 2004, followed by a Bachelor of Science in nursing science from the University of Tennessee in 2013. Ms. Phillips then earned a Master of Science in Nursing from King University in 2017. She has furthered her credentials by completing certification as a pediatric nurse and a non-violent crisis intervention instructor, in addition to certification in basic life support, pediatric advanced life support and advanced cardiac life support. Ms. Phillips credits her success to hard work and resilience; she has refused to back down even when faced with powerful adversity.
As part of her commitment to keeping informed on the latest news and trends in her field, Ms. Phillips maintains active membership in the Association for Nursing Professional Development. Her esteemed work in the industry was recognized in 2018 when she was presented with the Clinical Excellence Award.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Phillips supports the Lake Wales Care Center, a faith-based community service organization that helps people in need in Lake Wales, Florida. She has participated in 5K runs for charity and helped with fundraising efforts for the American Heart Association.
Outside of her professional life, Ms. Phillips is a devoted wife and mother to one daughter. She enjoys hiking in her free time. In planning for the future, Ms. Phillips hopes to build her team up, empowering each of her employees to become the best version of themselves. Through these efforts, she believes she will elevate the facilities she works for and increase the quality of care they provide to the community.
