She wrote her autobiography, "A Cry for Light: A Journey Into Love," in 2005; she later won the USA Book News Award for this work.
POWDER SPRINGS, GA, July 10, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Janet A. Jackson, IMTA CMT-P, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Building on a decades long career as a publicist, corporate trainer, and self-help coach, Ms. Jackson currently offers her insight as a mindfulness teacher and keynote speaker for Self-Awareness Trainings LLC, which she founded in 1996. She is contracted with two companies, Wondr Health and EMindful Life, through which she provides mindfulness lessons for employees of schools, colleges and organizations such as Kia Corporation, Ford Motor Company, the United States Navy and the Internal Revenue Service. Ms. Jackson advises people on using meditation and self-awareness to help control their thoughts and emotions and shape their reality. She also teaches online classes and regularly engages with the latest research on the connection between the body and mind.
Prior to discovering the practice of mindfulness, Ms. Jackson spent over two decades as a publicist in the entertainment industry. From 1974 to 1996, she worked for major television networks like CBS and ABC and promoted the stars of such TV shows as "Full House," "Roseanne," "The Wonder Years," "The Jeffersons" and "The Young and the Restless." Upon leaving her publicist career in 1996, Ms. Jackson took up mindfulness at Deer Park Monastery, training under Zen master Thich Nhất Hạnh.
The foundation for Ms. Jackson's success was laid in her academic background. She received an Associate of Arts in broadcast journalism from the City College of San Francisco in 1972, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism from San Jose State University in 1974. Ms. Jackson earned her initial certification in mindfulness from Deer Park Monastery in 2005. Since then, she has completed additional certifications in law of attraction and as a licensed HeartMath coach. Ms. Jackson is also certified as a professional-level mindfulness teacher by the International Mindfulness Teachers Association. She attributes her success to her understanding and ability to connect with other people emotionally, as well as the lessons she's learned through surviving traumatic experiences in her life.
In addition to training others in person, Ms. Jackson passes on her knowledge of mindfulness through numerous published works. She wrote her autobiography, "A Cry for Light: A Journey Into Love," in 2005; she later won the USA Book News Award for this work. Since then, Ms. Jackson has authored several further books focused on the topic of mindfulness, as well as pieces in publications such as Ezine Articles and Article Weekly. Her accomplishments have been recognized with many accolades, including the Publishers Guild Award and the Hollywood Publicists Guild Award for her work on the television series "Twin Peaks."
Ms. Jackson has long been committed to civic advocacy in many forms. She spent many years as a mentor to young women for WriteGirl, a docent for the Los Angeles Zoo and a teacher in public speaking and drama for the Destiny's Daughters of Promise youth group. In 1999, Ms. Jackson founded Believe In Yourself Inc., acting as its director for four years. She has served on the boards for Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children and the Child Care Resource Center, giving her time freely to a cause that is deeply important to her. Most recently, Ms. Jackson has been a staunch supporter of Nepris, a volunteer platform that helps people learn from and engage with experts across different fields through virtual lessons.
Outside of her career, Ms. Jackson is a devoted mother to three children and finds balance through swimming and water aerobics. Looking to the future, she hopes to reconnect to her entertainment industry roots while carrying forward her mastery of mindfulness. Ms. Jackson intends to teach others in arts and entertainment how to maintain a more balanced life despite working in such a fast-paced and competitive field. She believes television and movies have a great capacity for helping viewers through their healing journey and wants to ensure that the people behind those stories are taking care of themselves as well. To that end, Ms. Jackson is finishing work on her latest book, "Lights, Camera, Mindfulness: Stress Relief and Resilience in the Entertainment Industry," which is planned for release in 2024.
