Mr. Thomas-Forss has dedicated over three decades to a distinguished career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. His tenure began in 1988 and he has since held numerous pivotal roles, culminating in his position as vice president before retiring in 2023.
In his most recent role as vice president of operations in administration for the research division, Mr. Thomas-Forss managed a support staff of 20+ individuals, ensuring that over 100 economists from around the world received the necessary assistance to complete their work. This included support with technology, travel and reimbursement. Prior to this, he served as vice president and chief risk officer for enterprise risk management and shared business services, where he was responsible for compliance, managing risks and business continuity.
From 2014 to 2017, Mr. Thomas-Forss was the assistant vice president of the enterprise risk group at the same institution. Before his appointment, he held the position of assistant vice president for human resources and learning management support office. His earlier roles at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis include operations manager and assistant vice president.
While serving as the director of training and communications, Mr. Thomas-Forss accomplished his most notable achievement: directing the training and communication for a national Federal Reserve project called Check Modernization. This project involved migrating from two different technology platforms to one, requiring extensive staff re-training for those involved in check processing.
Mr. Thomas-Forss's career began in human resources and sales at Dayton Hudson Department Store Company before joining the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. His academic background includes a Master of Arts in industrial relations and human resources from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, earned in 1993, and a Bachelor of Arts in social work from St. Olaf College, earned in 1985.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Thomas-Forss is actively involved in several industry-related organizations. He is a member of the Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics, the Business Continuity Planners Association, the American Society for Training Development and the Society for Human Resource Management.
Mr. Thomas-Forss is also deeply committed to civic engagement. He serves as a board member and the diversity equity and inclusion committee chair for Can Do Canines along with chairing the employee resource network 9PRIDE at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. He has also been associated with The Bridge for Youth, St. Stephen's Human Services, Midwest Special Services, Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the Aliveness Project and the ARISE Project with Greater Twin Cities United Way.
