    SYLVANIA, OH, July 10, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Edward Cancio has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Cancio is a distinguished associate professor at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio, where he has dedicated over 15 years to advancing the field of special education. With an impressive career spanning over four decades, he has also made significant contributions through his research on stress and burnout among special education teachers. Moreover, Dr. Cancio has been active on campus in an advisory role for students.

Drawing on his former experiences, Dr. Cancio's career began as an emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) teacher at Onamia Public Schools in 1980. He continued this role at Bemidji Regional Interdistrict Council from 1983 to 1984 and at CESA #6 between 1984 and 1989. Dr. Cancio's expertise in special education led him to become a special education supervisor at U46 School District in 1995, followed by his role as the director of special education at Keeneyville District 20 from 1996 to 1999. He then served as the director of student support services at Elementary SD #124 until 2002 before joining Northern Illinois University as an assistant professor, teaching classes in emotional and behavior disorders and behavior management until 2007. Apart from his primary positions in the classroom, Dr. Cancio has served as a consultant for Toledo Public Schools, focusing on programs for emotional disturbance.

Highly educated, Dr. Cancio studied at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, receiving a bachelor's and master's degree in special education and teaching in 1980 and 1986, respectively. Subsequently, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in special education and behavior disorders from Utah State University in 1998.

In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Cancio has been actively involved in professional organizations. He has served as president of the Ohio Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders from 2009 through 2014 and has served on the International Executive Board of the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders as Secretary/Historian, from August of 2011 to August 2013. He is also a long-standing member of the Council for Exceptional Children. Furthermore, Dr. Cancio has contributed significantly to academic literature, authoring articles for several professional journals and two volumes of "Behavior Management in Today's School" via Rowman & Littlefield in 2019.

Dr. Cancio has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including a Teacher of the Year Award in Wisconsin in 1987 and an Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Toledo in 2018. His passion and dedication to his field have been instrumental in his success.
