Before entering the field of medical communications and advertising, Dr. Honda spent seven years as a clinical researcher with an NIH grant and has been affiliated with institutions such as the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai; Midtown Ophthalmology PC; Albert Einstein College of Medicine; and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has also co-authored two papers in clinical journals in 2012 and 2013, presented at congresses, and participated in a variety of speaking engagements. After completing a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Washington in 2005, Dr. Honda earned her doctorate in medicine from the University of Sint Eustatius School of Medicine in 2010.
Dr. Honda is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the Worldwide Women's Association, the American Medical Writers Association, and the International Association of Professional Writers and Editors. In recognition of her contributions to medicine, Dr. Honda received the Women in Medicine Award in 2024.
Outside of her professional accomplishments, Dr. Honda opened a small online business, Koa's Ruff Life, a fashion boutique and "barkery" that seeks to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for dogs. Dr. Honda's latest venture is a children's book series in which she hopes to inspire and educate young readers. The first published in the series, "Koa's Ruff Life: Koa's Adventure to the Central Park Zoo," features Koa as he visits Central Park Zoo and learns about the sea lions, grizzly bears, and penguins who live there.
Additionally, Dr. Honda is also deeply involved in public service. Since 2021, she has volunteered and served on the board of directors for The Good Dog Foundation. She also enjoys a variety of hobbies, including scuba diving, reading, attending sporting events, and is an avid runner.
