With a career spanning nearly three decades, Mrs. Anderson has embraced her latest role as the director of laboratory services at McLeod Seacoast Hospital. Having started in this position in 2023, she is in charge of budgeting, personnel management and compliance for the hospital's laboratory. Mrs. Anderson helps integrate the laboratory services with the rest of the hospital and monitors laboratory quality indicators to promote efficiency and continuous improvement in her department.
Before joining McLeod Seacoast Hospital, Mrs. Anderson built her reputation in management at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, first as the manager of immunohematology and microbiology and later as a laboratory manager. Her time at this job was marked by notable achievements, including boosting employee engagement and implementing changes to save hundreds of thousands of dollars annually. Mrs. Anderson's favorite accomplishment was helping launch a new automation system that made New Hanover the second automated microbiology department in the U.S. She also spent several years as a laboratory manager for Lexington Medical Center, where she made major strides in decreasing turnaround times for reporting test results to patients.
Mrs. Anderson's professional life began with a lengthy tenure at the American Red Cross. She joined the organization in 1997 as a collection specialist and was later promoted to collection operation manager, division director, and finally director of collections before leaving the company in 2015. Mrs. Anderson remains deeply proud of the almost 20 years she was associated with the American Red Cross, during which time she managed a workforce of over 150 employees and oversaw an annual budget of more than $15 million. In recognition of her contributions, the organization awarded her with the Employee Excellence Award in Management in 2008.
Driven to pursue a career in health care from a young age but preferring something that was not patient-facing, Mrs. Anderson turned to academia to lay a strong foundation for her future. She earned a Bachelor of Science in biology and medical technology from Francis Marion University in 1989, followed by a second Bachelor of Science in medical technology from McLeod Regional Medical Center in 1992. Additionally, Mrs. Anderson has completed numerous certifications, including medical technologist from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, applying lean principles in health care and world-class customer service.
Further demonstrating her commitment to staying updated on the latest developments in her field, Mrs. Anderson holds membership in the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She attributes her success to hard work, perseverance and leading by example.
Outside of her professional life, Mrs. Anderson is a devoted wife and mother to two children. Her future plans are focused on expanding the lab at McLeod Seacoast Hospital. While this aspiration will surely increase Mrs. Anderson's responsibility, she is devoted to leading ambitious initiatives and motivating her team to achieve the greatest results possible.
