Before his tenure with Health Alliance, Mr. Curry's journey began at Coopers and Lybrand (currently Price Waterhouse Coopers) in 1985 where he worked as a staff Auditor. He later joined The Auto Club Group in 1988, where he worked as a staff accountant from 1988 to 1996. During this time, he honed his financial accounting and reporting skills, laying the groundwork for his future success.
One of Mr. Curry's most notable achievements at the Health Alliance Plan was transforming the statutory reporting function. When he joined the company, the team used Lotus 123 for statutory statement preparation. After receiving a lengthy letter from the state with comments and exceptions about their report, Mr. Curry took the initiative to streamline the reporting process. His decision to replace Lotus 123 with insurance reporting software simplified the process and improved the quality of the reports. After insurance industry regulators established a single set of rules for all health maintenance organizations across states and territories, he made necessary accounting and reporting changes within his company and implemented a crucial risk-based capital report.
In addition to his primary roles, Mr. Curry has been Chair of the Local Development Financing Authority and a board member of the Board of Review for the City of Westland, Michigan, since 1995. His contributions have been helpful to the town's success. He is also an active Insurance Accounting and Systems Association member, further demonstrating his commitment to the field.
Beyond his professional contributions, Mr. Curry has been actively involved in civic organizations. He served on the board of directors for Westland Goodfellows Inc., sat on the board of trustees for New Jerusalem Baptist Church, and was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. These roles reflect Mr. Curry's dedication to community service and his commitment to making a positive impact beyond his professional life.
Mr. Curry's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance from Michigan State University in 1985. In addition to his undergraduate degree, he spent over six years in seminary, which was a very significant experience for him.
