Prior to his current position, Mr. Wake led a successful career in pharmaceutical sales and management. He was a senior district sales manager at Takeda Pharmaceuticals from 2000 to 2016, where he led sales teams. Prior to Takeda, he worked for TAP Pharmaceuticals from 1997 to 2000, first as a hospital sales representative and then as a program sales trainer. These roles laid a solid foundation for his expertise in sales and marketing within the health care sector.
Mr. Wake's academic background includes a Master of Science in health informatics from Walden University, earned in 2017, and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the University of Kansas, completed in 1992. His professional qualifications are further enhanced by certifications as a Certified Medical Representative from the CMR Institute in 2001 and as a Community Health Worker from the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America in 2018.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Wake is actively involved in various industry-related organizations. In 2024, he began a term on the board of directors of the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement. Other advisory memberships include positions as chair of the Patient and Family Advisory Council at University Health in Kansas City and co-chair of the Missouri Hospital Association's Patient and Family Advisory Council.
Beyond his career achievements, Mr. Wake is deeply proud of overcoming personal challenges related to his sickle cell disease diagnosis. He was told in childhood by doctors that he might not live beyond age 25. But he defied those odds, graduated college, and built a successful career over two decades, exemplifying his determination not to let sickle cell disease define him.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Wake is passionate about cooking, baking, traveling, visiting farms, and gardening — interests that reflect his appreciation for life's simple pleasures. Looking ahead, he is committed to expanding the reach of the Owens Sickle Cell Disease Association across Kansas and Missouri to support more patients affected by sickle cell disease. Through these efforts, Mr. Wake aims to continue making a lasting impact on individuals' lives for many years to come.
