    FOSTER CITY, CA, July 16, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rima Yousef Salah, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Salah, a distinguished faculty member at Yale University, has dedicated her career to advancing the well-being of women and children, and promoting peace globally. Since 2013, she has served as an assistant clinical professor at the Yale Child Study Center within the Yale School of Medicine. Her expertise in cultural anthropology and her extensive experience in international organizations have significantly contributed to her role at Yale.

In addition to her academic responsibilities, Dr. Salah was appointed as a member of the United Nations Independent High-Level Panel on Peace Operations from 2014 to 2015. This appointment followed her tenure as the deputy executive director of UNICEF for external relations from 2011 until 2012. Prior to this position, she was the deputy special representative of the secretary-general for the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad between 2008 and 2010.

Dr. Salah's career with UNICEF is marked by several other key positions, including deputy executive director of UNICEF from 2004 to 2007 and regional director for West and Central Africa, where she served in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and Dakar, Senegal, from 1999 until 2005. In this role, she contributed to the protection of children living in situations of armed conflict, and in demobilizing child soldiers. She also held roles as a representative for UNICEF in Hanoi, Vietnam, between 1995 to 1999 and in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from 1992 to 1995. Earlier in her career, she was the head of office for UNICEF in Balochistan, Pakistan, from 1989 until 1992. In this role, she focused on safeguarding children's education, particularly for girls, in a region where access to schooling for girls was limited. As a result, she established numerous educational institutions for girls in the region.

Before joining UNICEF, Dr. Salah was a lecturer in psychology and sociology at Binghamton Community College between 1985 and 1987. She also served as a lecturer and assistant in Arabic at Binghamton University from 1977 to 1984. Her early professional journey included roles as an instructor of sociology and social work at the Dar al-Tifel al-Arabi School in Jerusalem from 1972 until 1975, as well as a supervisor of social workers and as a coordinator for humanitarian programs for refugees and displaced people with Catholic Relief Services in Jerusalem between 1967 and 1975.

Dr. Salah's academic achievements laid the groundwork for her professional success, beginning with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and social work from Beirut College for Women in 1965. She then earned a Master of Arts in education and sociology from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia in 1976, followed by a Master of Arts in cultural anthropology from SUNY at Binghamton in 1981. She subsequently earned a Doctor of Philosophy in cultural anthropology in 1986, also from SUNY at Binghamton.

Dr. Salah's commitment to peace, and womens' and children's rights is reflected through her involvement with various organizations. She serves as Chairperson of the Early Childhood Peace Consortium (ECPC), and on the boards of the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders and Women for Women International. Her contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Peacemaker Award from Brigham Young University's Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution in 2021 and the Recognition and Gratitude in Advocating for Children's Rights Around the World Award from the Palestinian Health Policy Forum's Juzoor for Health and Social Development in 2019.

Dr. Salah's accolades also include the Global Women's Peace Award from the Women's Federation for World Peace International in 2017, the Officier de l'Ordre National du Tchad from Chad in 2010 and the Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur from France in 2009.

Additionally, she has earned the Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Lion from Senegal and the Chevalier de l'Ordre National from Gabon in 2004, the Medal for the Protection and Care of Children from Vietnam in 1999 and the Chevalier de l'Ordre National from Burkina Faso in 1995.

Born in Jerusalem, Dr. Salah's early life experiences as a refugee have profoundly influenced her dedication to humanitarian efforts and education. Her journey reflects a lifelong commitment to fostering peace, advocating for vulnerable populations worldwide, and advancing humanity.
