RICHLAND, WA, July 17, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present John Winkel with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, John Winkel celebrates many years' experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Due to his early affinity for dismantling and reassembling various objects, as well as his natural talent and curiosity, Mr. Winkel was driven to pursue a career in engineering. Encouraged by his mother, he enrolled at the Colorado School of Mines, earning a Bachelor of Science in metallurgical engineering. Subsequently, Mr. Winkel expanded his professional knowledge by completing a Master of Science in metallurgical engineering through his alma mater in 1979 and an MBA in information systems through Regis University in 1990.

Over the years, Mr. Winkel gained valuable expertise in nuclear engineering, metallurgical engineering, and manufacturing through various companies before becoming a lead criticality safety engineer for Fluor Corporation, where he led the nuclear criticality safety group at the Hanford Plutonium Finishing Plant. Backed by his considerable experience, he excels as a nuclear and criticality safety engineer for CPCCo. In this capacity, he mentors large organizations regarding nuclear cleanup and develops national and international industry standards. Given his vast knowledge, Mr. Winkel also contributed to "New ANS Standard 8.28" through the American Nuclear Society.

While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Winkel takes the most pride in eliminating the risk of the country's two most hazardous nuclear sites: Building 771 in Rocky Flats and the Plutonium Finishing Plant Complex. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to his drive to perform, which was instilled in him at the Colorado School of Mines. Although he struggled as a student, his professors gave him the confidence to tackle tough challenges. A pioneer in his field, he didn't have mentors along the way. However, he had many brilliant peers from whom he learned much. Looking toward the future, Mr. Winkel intends to leverage his expertise as a consultant in his retirement.
