Her goal is to save and improve lives of cancer patients.
POTOMAC, MD, July 17, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cha-Mei Tang, ScD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Tang has established herself as a well-known professional in the field of cancer diagnostics and screening through her innovative work at Creatv Bio, Division of Creatv MicroTech, Inc., where she has served as founder, president and chief executive officer since 1996. In 2010 under her leadership, the company developed a technology aimed at collecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from the blood of cancer patients. Creatv was not only able to collect CTCs but also many previously ignored tumor associated giant cells. Creatv found them in thousands of cancer patient samples representing many types of cancer, but not in healthy controls. These giant cells provide a broad spectrum of useful information for physicians and patients for cancer screening and diagnostics. Her role encompasses scientific research activities such as, presenting data at conferences and writing and editing articles on Creatv's research results.
Before founding Creatv MicroTech, Inc., Dr. Tang was a guest scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) from 1993 to 1996. Prior to this role, she made significant contributions as a supervisory research physicist, holding the position as Head of Radiation and Accelerator Physics Section at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. Early career positions include serving as a senior scientist at Jaycor Inc. and as a senior engineer at The John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Creatv was founded in 1996 focusing on microfabrication. Creatv was re-incorporated in 2000 to also develop products for various biological applications, such as detection of E. coli in food and water, etc. In 2010, Creatv started research on a blood test for cancer.
Dr. Tang's academic foundation is robust, with a Doctor of Science, an Electrical Engineering, a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science Degrees, all from the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She attributes both her academic and professional success to her logical approach to problem-solving, which has been instrumental in navigating her diverse career across multiple fields.
Further demonstrating dedication to her profession, Dr. Tang is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the American Association of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Physical Society (APS), and the IEEE.
Throughout her career, Dr. Tang has been recognized with numerous awards, including Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1990, WISE Award for Science for the most outstanding woman scientist in the Federal Government in 1992, given by Women in Science and Engineering, Inc., Senior Member of the IEEE in 1995. the R&D 100 Award from R&D Magazine in 2006, and listed on the Micro Nano 25 Technologies of Tomorrow by Micro Nano Newsletter in 2006, and her company, Creatv MicroTech, was named Bioscience Company of the Year in Montgomery County, Maryland in 2013.
Dr. Tang is deeply committed to advancing cancer screening and diagnostic technologies. Despite facing stiff competition and financial challenges, she remains focused on research, developing assays, and the establishment of a CLIA-certified laboratory positioned to offer cancer detection and cancer diagnosis. Her goal is to save and improve lives of cancer patients.
