Mrs. Prestwood's career began in the mailroom of a brokerage company, where she quickly realized that hard work could lead to advancement. Despite facing numerous challenges early in life—including leaving home at 17, getting married at 18, having a baby at 19, and being divorced by 20—she persevered.
