GERMANTOWN, MD, July 22, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Frank J. Lovas, PhD with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Frank J. Lovas, PhD celebrates many years' experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in professional chemistry from the University of Detroit in 1963, Dr. Lovas joined the NASA Lewis Research Center. Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge by completing a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and becoming a graduate research assistant at Lawrence Radiation Laboratory. In the ensuing years, he excelled as a research chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Molecular Spectroscopy, Optical Technology, and Molecular Physics Divisions. Between 1972 and 2000, Dr. Lovas conducted considerable molecular physics, molecular radio astronomy, radiometric metrology, and physical chemistry research. In addition to studying the behavior of materials under the influence of external fields and radiation, he detected and identified over 20 interstellar molecules and calibrated methods for broadband and narrowband radiometers, radiation thermometers, and optical fiber radiometers.

After formal retirement from NIST, Dr. Lovas continued in research and education as a visiting professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign's Department of Astronomy, a guest scientist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Sensor Science Division, and with the University of Virginia, Charlottesville's Center of the Chemistry of the Universe. Throughout his career, Dr. Lovas has expanded his professional knowledge by completing a NATO Postdoctoral Fellowship and a Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft Fellowship through Freie Universitat Berlin and the NRC-NBS Postdoctoral Research Associate position with the National Bureau of Standards.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Lovas aligns himself with the Society of Sigma Xi, the American Physical Society, and the International Astronomical Union. In light of his professional achievements, he won an award from the American Chemistry Society, the NBS Superior Accomplishment and Special Act Awards, and the George van Biesbroeck Prize from the American Astronomical Society. While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Lovas takes the most pride in winning a Gold Medal from the Department of Commerce in 1977 for his contributions to interstellar molecular research.

Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Dr. Lovas credits his success to his parents' support, his love of reading, and working alongside scholars such as Dave Lide, Don Johnson, Lew Snyder, and Mike Hollis. In the coming years, Dr. Lovas intends to experience his career's continued growth and success.
