Marquis Who's Who Honors Ernest R. Crutcher III for Expertise in Microscopy and Particle Identification

Ernest R. Crutcher III recognized as the owner of Microlab Northwest

He has written over 100 articles on the analysis of particles using the light microscope.

REDMOND, WA, July 22, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ernest R. Crutcher III has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Crutcher has dedicated his career to environmental microscopy, the identification of particles, their sources, transport mechanisms, and their detrimental effects on people and equipment. He has established himself as a prominent figure in the characterization of environments. In 1973, he began working on a contract with EPA through the Boeing Company to identify the sources of airborne particles in major cities across the US. He started Microlab Northwest in 1978 to continue working with EPA while still working in the Aerospace Division of the Boeing Company, where he headed the Particle Identification Laboratory, where he was responsible for maintaining cleanrooms and certifying the cleanliness of spacecraft before launch.

He taught classes on the optical properties of materials for the University of Washington from 1981 to 1989. He was on loan to the Engineering Graduate School, Imperial College, London, as a visiting scholar during the summers of 1985 and 1987. He has taught numerous classes on identifying particles using the light microscope for EPA, NASA, and many major companies. He taught a class on sampling and analyzing environmental particles for the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). The text he wrote for that class has been downloaded approximately 30,000 times. He is currently teaching classes on the identification of combustion particles for McCrone Research Institute.

Mr. Crutcher has been a key figure in extended research projects: the identification of particle sources for EPA, 1982-1986; sources of contamination on satellites in orbit for NASA, 1989-1994, and mechanisms of failure in high power transformers for the Electrical Power Research Institute, 2002-2006. He has been involved in writing guidelines and standards on the analysis of combustion products for AIHA, the American Council of Accredited Certification (ACAC), and IICRC. He has written over 100 articles on the analysis of particles using the light microscope.

Mr. Crutcher's educational background has been instrumental in his professional achievements. In 1972, he was awarded a degree in Physical Anthropology with a strong background in chemistry, physics, and mathematics from the University of Washington, Seattle. He obtained a certificate in Advance Light Microscopy from McCrone Research Institute, Chicago, in 1974.

Mr. Crutcher is a Jehovah's Witness and attributes his success to his sense of wonder and curiosity. It has driven him to accumulate a vast body of knowledge on various subjects. He looks forward to continuing to grow in knowledge and to share what he has learned.
