Additionally, he served as Co- executor of the Estate of William J. Basie, the Co-Trustee of the William J. Basie Trust as well as the Co guardian of Miss Diane L. Basie and he also served as the Co-executor of the Catherine Basie Estate and the Catherine Basie Trust. During the initial stages of his career, he gained valuable expertise in various positions with Allstate Insurance Company, New York Life Insurance Company, MONY, Medgar Evers College, and Citibank. Similarly, he worked in the automotive industry as a brake assembler with Delco Moraine and a line assembler with General Motors. In addition to his financial career, Dr. Woodward has fostered a successful career in music as a co-producer of 'The Legend, the Legacy, the Count" and a contributor to "Big Boss Band." Through the Count Basie Orchestra and Joe Williams, he also served as an orchestra recording executive producer for the "Count Basie Orchestra Live at the El Morocco" recording.
An expert in his field, Dr. Woodward holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Central State University and a Doctor of Divinity in Christian Studies from the Master's International University of Divinity. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he aligns himself with several organizations, including The Eastern Baptist Association, the National Alliance of Business, the Brookhaven National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the National Association of Jazz Educators, the American Federation of Musicians, One Hundred Black Men, Inc., and many others. Dedicated to his community, Dr. Woodward is the senior pastor at the Christ Baptist Church of Coram. Over the years, he has also served his church as a Deacon, Bible Teacher, Sunday school teacher, and chair of the board of trustees.
Due to his vast knowledge and considerable achievements, Dr. Woodward was inducted into the International Jazz Hall of Fame, nominated for three Grammy Awards by the Recording Academy, and honored as the New York Life Insurance Company Rookie of the Year. He recently won the Omega Psi Phi, Fraternities Chi Rho Chapter Pride for Fatherhood Uplift Award, and the Christ Baptist Church of Coram's Black Men of Distinction Award. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in receiving the National Medal of Freedom Award for Count Basie from President Ronald Reagan and earning his Grammy Award nominations. President Jimmy Carter recognized Dr. Woodward in a Presidential Commendation for his service to others in 1981.
