He began his professional journey as a student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he studied political science and government. An accomplished college football player, Mr. McGrath signed three free agent NFL Contracts over two years, but, as the result of a hamstring injury, pivoted to a career in business. He returned to school at California State University Long Beach, which awarded him a Bachelor of Arts in communications in 2003. As a part of his commitment to executive development, Mr. McGrath earned a Master of Business Administration from the Jack Welch Management Institute in 2022.
Mr. McGrath entered the healthcare sector in 1999 as an account manager for Cigna Health Benefits, where he developed an in-depth understanding of the industry's specialized demands over the next two years. In 2001, he joined Igoe Administrative Services as a senior account executive, and in 2004, he transitioned into pharmaceutical sales as a representative for Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a division of Johnson & Johnson. The following year, Mr. McGrath brought his diverse healthcare sales expertise to Medtronic, a medical device manufacturer. In 2012, he transitioned from Medtronic to area sales manager of Coalition Spine (exclusive distributor of NuVasive, Inc.). In 2016 until the first half of 2023, Mr. McGrath's distributorship, NextGen Spine, Inc., distributed spine medical device products on behalf of NuVasive, where his responsibilities include managing and mentoring his company's sales team, providing clients with product education and support, and managing his company's financial and human resources functions, in addition to serving as a key training resource across the organization, due to his in-clinic experience and in-depth knowledge of NuVasive's products and procedures.
Throughout his career, Mr. McGrath has built a reputation for high sales performance and maintaining strong client relationships, and in 2022, Mr. McGrath's territory saw the second highest growth of any NuVasive domestic sales territory. During NextGen's tenure with NuVasive, distribution increased 200% -- one of his proudest accomplishments. Accolades he received as a distributor include the Chairman's Club, President's Club, and Western Region Distributor of the Year along with two nominations for National Distributor of the Year. Mr. McGrath credits his success to his competitive spirit and to the work ethic and tenacity instilled in him by his mother. In the coming years, Mr. McGrath looks forward to transitioning his skills into an executive leadership role and to taking on a larger role in his community as a mentor to underserved youth. In his personal time, Mr. McGrath is active in Toastmasters International and is a talented guitarist who has been featured onstage with leading classic rock acts.
