Mrs. Mairena's career commenced with Southwestern Advantage as a sales manager and corporate recruiter from 2010 to 2011. She joined EF Education First in 2012 as an international English teacher before moving into recruitment and training roles. Pivoting to human resources, Mrs. Mairena garnered roles in talent acquisition at Complete Staffing Solutions from 2016 to 2017 and Cengage between 2017 and 2018. She also worked for CozyKin in 2018 as the head of care recruitment before quickly advancing to the head of people in 2019, a testament to her leadership skills and strategic vision.
In preparation for her career, Mrs. Mairena earned a Bachelor of Arts in Italian & Business with a minor in Mandarin Chinese from Florida State University. Further enhancing her expertise, she obtained certifications in compensation studies from Cornell University, became a Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) senior certified professional, garnered inbound certification from HubSpot, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification from Florida State University, among others.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Mairena has been an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the Boston HR Council and the Human Resources Leadership Forum. She is an ambassador with Bennie's HR Advisory group and active in the StartupExperts community. These affiliations have allowed Mrs. Mairena to stay at the forefront of HR trends and best practices.
Apart from her career-related activities, Mrs. Mairena is deeply committed to civic engagement and mentorship. She regularly mentors junior HR talent in the greater Boston area and has been an advisor for the Women in Leadership Program at the University of Vermont since 2023. Her dedication to community service was previously evident in her volunteer work with Read to a Child and her role as the lead programming strategist for Startup Boston.
