Over the years, he gained valuable expertise in various positions with the International Monetary Fund. Between 1992 and 2015, he worked as an economist, senior economist, and deputy division and mission chief. Throughout his tenure with the organization, Mr. Kpodar led missions to African countries for negotiations of IMF-supported programs and to conduct discussions on IMF surveillance. He also served as an IMF resident representative in Cameroon.
During the early stages of his career, Mr. Kpodar gained valuable expertise with the Central Bank of West African States as an economist, division chief, and deputy director. In the latter role, he designed and implemented monetary policies for member states, bank supervision, and oversaw economic and financial studies. An expert in his field, he earned an MBA from the University of Lomé (Togo). Subsequently, Mr. Kpodar expanded his professional knowledge by completing a DES degree in banking and finance through the West African Center for Studies in Banking, a financial programming certificate with the IMF Institute in Washington, D.C., and a postgraduate degree in development economics and macroeconomics from University Cheikh Anta Diop Dakar (Senegal).
In conjunction with his work, Mr. Kpodar has contributed to his community as the founder of Renaissance Togo. Also, aiming for change and the wellbeing of the population in his home country, Mr. Kpodar was a presidential candidate in the 2020 election. Given his professional achievements, he was honored as an officer in the Central African Republic and received a Department Award from the IMF in 2014. While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Kpodar takes the most pride in overcoming many challenges as the 11th child of 18 siblings, raising three children, and establishing Renaissance Togo Foundation, which provides financial assistance to students and women, particularly in his home country.
