Mr. Schwartzlow highest award was the Defense Superior Service Medal for his actions as the commander of the Defense Information Systems Agency—Europe.

Upon earning a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, in 1966, Mr. Schwartzlow joined the United States Marine Corps, serving for over 31 years before retiring as a colonel in 1997. He has circumnavigated the globe eight times and has visited 53 countries. He spent 15 of his 31 years of service overseas. He has served in all five Marine Corps Divisions in every clime and place. Throughout his notable career, he held various infantry, communications, and logistics roles, including commander of the Defense Information System Agency in Europe, through which he managed 34 networks and systems supporting the State Department and all military services. He also served as the Assistant Chief of Staff of Communications at Marine Forces, Pacific in Hawaii. He also was stationed at Headquarters, Marine Corps where he served as the Assistant Head of Recruitment Advertising.
Since retiring from the military, he has gained valuable leadership expertise as a data manager for NextiraOne for eight years, where he oversaw a team of 30 technicians installing digital equipment and computer networks throughout the Midwest.
Over the years, Mr. Schwartzlow has also fostered his passion for writing non-fiction books, authoring such works as "30 Years, 10 Months, and Nine Days," which covered his contribution at each of his 22 duty stations; "Airborne Marine," which covered his wartime experiences in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 and "Battling Thor" which summarized his time as the Officer-in-charge of a Joint Search and Rescue Team sent to Heimay, Iceland to help the Icelanders save there homes during a volcanic eruption. He has 19 other books that he shares with family and friends via the Google cloud.
In conjunction with his professional endeavors, Mr. Schwartzlow was devoted to serving others such as the Edgerton VFW Post 2708, the American Legion Post 30 of Edgerton, the Marine Corps League of Janesville, the Edgerton Bowhunters, and the Edgerton Alumni Foundation, as its first Board Chairman. For 15 years of his life, he also served as a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America in Washington DC, Virginia, and Okinawa. He also supported other scouting programs in Hawaii, Louisiana, and Switzerland. He avidly supported competitive swimming and served as Committee chairman in Virginia, Okinawa, and Hawaii.
Given his dedication to the military, he has been recognized many times. His highest award was the Defense Superior Service Medal for his actions as the commander of the Defense Information Systems Agency—Europe. At retirement, he was awarded the Legion of Merit for services rendered as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Command, Control and Communications at Marine Forces Reserves in New Orleans. He received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his service as an action officer in the C3S Directorate of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. He earned the Bronze Star with Combat V for his service in Vietnam as an infantry and communications officer. He earned three Navy Commendations Medals for service at Marine Barracks, Iceland, as the Amphibious Communications Officer at COMNAVSURFLANT, and as the Assistant Communications-Electronics Officer at 3rd Marine Division headquarters. He is a recipient of both the Defense Information Systems Agency and the OJCS badges. He also earned lesser medals such as the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Combat action ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Marine Unity Citation, and the Defense Service Medal.
Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Mr. Schwartzlow credits his success to the leadership skills he gained in the Marine Corps. Looking ahead, he intends to continue publishing his books, fostering his love for writing, and hugging grandkids.
