With over a decade of experience in the field, he has established himself as an expert in audiology, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and public policy, and standards leadership, specializing in hearing science and the human sensory modalities of hearing and balance. Dr. Akbari's career at Intricon Corporation spans various roles, each contributing to his comprehensive expertise and leadership within the industry.

Having begun his tenure at Intricon Corporation in 2012 as a product development specialist, Dr. Akbari advanced through several key positions, including doctor of audiology and systems development specialist, research audiologist and product development specialist, and director of audiology services. In 2021, he took on dual roles as the director of audiology and study director until 2022. Dr. Akbari has served as the organization's senior medical science, clinical and regulatory affairs liaison since 2021 and as the principal of medical science regulatory compliance specialist since 2023.

In addition to his primary career endeavors at Intricon Corporation, Dr. Akbari has been an advisor for Guidepoint, a premier information services organization, since 2018.

Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Akbari designed three clinical trials concerning the first self-fitting over-the-counter hearing aids, including the first artificial intelligence-based self-fitting system from Tuned, an Israeli company. He has also been engaged in public speaking at podium events worldwide, including in Birmingham, U.K., and public policy advocacy at the FDA and the highest levels of the U.S. government, leading to over-the-counter hearing aids becoming law in 2021.

Dr. Akbari's academic background includes a Bachelor of Music in music synthesis, magna cum laude, from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2006. Subsequently, he studied at the University of Minnesota in Twin Cities, earning a Master of Arts in speech-language-hearing sciences and a Doctor of Audiology in 2013. Additionally, Dr. Akbari received a certificate of clinical competence in audiology. His education has been instrumental in his professional achievements, providing a solid foundation for his contributions to audiology and medical device development.

Aside from his education, Dr. Akbari's professional affiliations include membership in the American Speech Language Hearing Association, is involved with the Acoustical Society of America's Bioacoustics Working Group, and is a fellow in the American Academy of Audiology and the Academy of Doctors of Audiology. Moreover, Dr. Akbari serves as a chairperson for the American National Standards Institute accredited Acoustical Society of America S3 Working Group 48 and is a US-recognized delegate to the International Electrotechnical Commission, Technical Committee 29.

Dr. Akbari is actively involved in civic organizations, volunteering with the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. His dedication to community service complements his professional endeavors, reflecting his commitment to positively impacting both within and outside his field.

Among his numerous accolades, Dr. Akbari received the Hearing Industry Leadership Award from the Academy of Doctors of Audiology in 2022 for advocating over-the-counter hearing aids against a multibillion-dollar industry. He was notably the first individual to receive this accolade. Dr. Akbari's advocacy has also been featured in The Wall Street Journal, the Star Tribune and several other newspapers, as well as in numerous podcasts. Earlier, he was honored with the Early Career Researcher Prize in 2010 for his paper on neural coding of formant exaggerated speech in the infant brain and the Max Mathews Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Music Synthesis in 2005.

As he progresses in his career, Dr. Akbari aims to lead high-performing teams for international commercial success as a leading executive in the medical device industry. He also plans to expand into class III medical devices while enhancing his executive presence and leadership style.
