In 2024 alone, he won second place at the Big Sur Challenge and his age group's 5K race during the Boston Marathon. Additionally, Mr. Buell was ranked 20th out of 650 runners at the marathon.
During the early stages of his career, Mr. Buell gained valuable expertise with Chevron as a base business manager, engineer, production superintendent, reservoir engineer, petroleum engineer, rig supervisor, and engineering trainee. Over the years, he has worked on various projects related to thermal heavy oil and water flooding in several states. Due to his vast knowledge, Mr. Buell has also contributed to several articles, including "Flow Profiling Using Fiber Optics in a Horizontal Steam Injector with Liner-Deployed Flow Control Devices," "Operational Experience with Fiber Optic Systems in Horizontal Steam Injectors" and "Creating a Culture to Deliver Sustainable HSE Performance."
An expert in his field, Mr. Buell holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Throughout his career and retirement, he has contributed to his community as a volunteer poll worker and worked with Planned Parenthood and the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
Given his professional achievements, Mr. Buell received a Regional Service Award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in putting seven children through college, two of them being his own. In addition, he has pioneered innovations in the field of fiber optics and high-temperature wells.
