Ms. Sepko always had a passion for real estate. After obtaining her engineering degree and moving to California for her first engineering job, she went back to school and obtained a real estate license and worked part time for California Prudential Realty in Rancho Cucamonga, CA under Kim Senecal. She recalls Kim teaching Attitude is Everything and Karen had three transactions after canvasing a neighborhood and knocking on thirteen doors. That was the start of her real estate career. Ms. Sepko was married to Andy Sepko, director for Johns Manville and relocated to Ohio where she worked in engineering and again obtained an Ohio real estate license. She designed and built their own home in Stone Oak subdivision in Sylvania Ohio which she thoroughly enjoyed. Pivoting into real estate fulltime after relocating to New Orleans with her husband, she began exploring real estate investment opportunities. She purchased a space in Cotton Mill condominiums that was an old telephone switching station and converted it into a lofted condo unit and purchased the original Cotton Mill office and converted it into a three-bedroom loft where they lived. To this day, she loves redesigning spaces and putting her own interior decorating touch for marketing appeal. Her passion for real estate and design was instrumental in her career change.
Ms. Sepko earned an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from the University of Arizona in 1987. Furthering her education, she earned an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Toledo in 1998. Ms. Sepko's academic achievements have been instrumental in her professional journey, particularly her innovative work in engineering, where she developed a cost-effective binder system, developed a paint manual for military hardware systems, developed an insulation panel used in the Biosphere in Oracle Arizona, engineered internal system of refractory trefoils and metal alloy J-lifters for a Dolomite kiln operation and was the package engineer for Unilever and Bath and Body Works plastic products. Karen was nicknamed the White Water before the Wave because she forged ahead and found new ways of managing projects in collaboration with union personnel that ended successfully.
Adding to her professional success, Ms. Sepko was an active member with the World Trade Center in New Orleans. The organization supports, promotes, and attracts international trade and businesses for the benefit of Louisiana. In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Sepko is involved in civic organizations. In New Orleans she received a safety officer award for her efforts working with the NOPD to eliminate the residency rule for police officers. In Alabama, she was elected and served as president of Fairway Condominiums, vice president of Venetian Isles and treasurer for the Phoenix III Condominium Boards and is presently the president of Beachview Condominiums.
