    WELLESLEY, MA, August 09, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Deya Corzo, MD, FACMGG, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Building on more than 20 years as a clinical scientist in the biopharma industry, Dr. Corzo currently serves as a Chief Medical Officer-in-residence at Roivant Sciences, a role she has held since 2022. In this position, she leads the development of transformative medicines at agile, focused companies in various disease areas, called 'vants'. Before joining Roivant Sciences, Dr. Corzo built her reputation across lengthy tenures as a faculty member at Harvard Medical School's department of pediatrics and as an attending physician at the clinical genetics service at Boston Children's Hospital. Concurrently with those roles, she held the title of executive vice president and chief medical officer for Sigilon Therapeutics Inc. for several years, where she helped advance cell therapies into the clinic and transform the company from private into their initial public offering market.

Dr. Corzo's extensive career includes time in Research and Development as a senior vice president at Uniqure and chief medical officer at Sojournix Inc., and in Medical Affairs as executive medical director at Celgene Corporation and senior medical director of USA medical affairs at Takeda Oncology. Dr. Corzo's professional life started with her time at Genzyme Corporation, where she began as an associate medical director in 2001 and was promoted to medical director and senior medical director of clinical research on rare diseases. While at Genzyme, she worked with regulatory agencies in multiple countries and took two medical products from testing to the approval in global markets.

Before embarking on her career journey, Dr. Corzo laid a foundation with her academic background. She graduated cum laude with an MD from the Industrial University of Santander in 1991. Following that, Dr. Corzo completed a research fellowship in immunogenetics at Harvard Medical School's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 1995 and a clinical residency in pediatrics at Maimonides Medical Center in 1998. In 2001, she finished a clinical fellowship in genetics with Boston Children's Hospital through Harvard Medical School. Dr. Corzo is licensed for medical practice in the state of Massachusetts and in Colombia. She is certified in clinical genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Dr. Corzo credits her success to her education, especially her pursuit of higher education in the United States.

As a commitment to her field, Dr. Corzo remains active with several industry-related organizations. She provides guidance as part of the scientific advisory board for Mina Therapeutics, in the UK. She has further demonstrated her dedication to medical research by co-authoring more than 30 studies and book chapters.

Noted for her achievements, Dr. Corzo has garnered numerous accolades. Her efforts at Genzyme led to the Panorama del Medicamento and the UK Prix Galien Awards for Myozyme™ in 2006, followed by the NORD Corporate Leadership Award in 2007. Dr. Corzo has been named to such prestigious lists as Top 50 Leaders by Cambio Magazine, Top 10 Women to Watch by the Massachusetts High Technology Council, Top 4 Women to Watch by the Boston Herald and 100 Colombians Abroad by the office of the president of Colombia. In 2011, she was honored as a distinguished alumna by the Industrial University of Santander.

In addition to her primary vocation, Dr. Corzo gives back to the wider community through civic advocacy. She volunteers as a physician for the Medical Reserve Corps of Massachusetts and is a board member of the The Golden Lights Foundation, a nonprofit devoted to pediatric cancer research. Dr. Corzo served for five years on the board of directors for La Donna Musicale Inc., a nonprofit music organization. She and her spouse work together to raise money to supply school supplies to children in indigenous schools along the Amazon River.

Outside of her career, Dr. Corzo is a mother who enjoys unconventional cooking. Looking ahead, she is focused on the continued development of new medical treatments for genetic conditions. Dr. Corzo hopes to see treatments for rare genetic diseases approved in the United States and Europe reach all patients who need them worldwide. She has already made a notable impact on the world of drug development and intends to contribute further.
