As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Kelly is a distinguished academic and author renowned for her contributions to American cultural history and higher education. She holds the title of associate professor emerita of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, where she has been influential since 1985.

Commencing her career on campus as the Curator of Rare Books and Long Island Studies at the University's library in 1985, Dr. Kelly managed the rare books collections including the notable Kroul Collection which features materials from interwar Germany, as well as the Nila Banton Smith Collection of children's readers which contains textbooks dating back to colonial times. Her expertise in local history, genealogy, and interwar Germany made her an invaluable resource for individuals researching both Long Island history and the rise of German Nazism.

In 2001, Dr. Kelly transitioned into a teaching role within Hofstra University's School of Communication where she served as associate professor of Media Studies. Her academic focus on the politics of house and home, particularly the influence of government funding on the postwar suburban environment, was exemplified by her dissertation on Levittown. This work also set Dr. Kelly's academic career in motion and allowed her to conduct essential research while at Hofstra.

Dr. Kelly's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Joseph's College in Brentwood, New York. She furthered her education at SUNY Stony Brook, earning her Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in American cultural history.

Dr. Kelly is also an accomplished author. In addition to her earlier book, Expanding the American Dream, a cultural history of postwar Levittown, Dr. Kelly authored her first novel, Gather The Fragments, in 2019. This book sheds light on the struggles of homeless single mothers raising children in modern society. Through this publication she aims to portray single mothers as admirable individuals undeserving of discrimination. Writing remains a significant passion for Dr. Kelly as she continues to explore historical narratives with the hope of contributing to a more peaceful society through the work.

In addition to her academic and literary achievements, Dr. Kelly has served as the vice president of the Long Island Studies Council. Her commitment to civic engagement is evident through her involvement with the women's shelter, Safe Haven, where she has contributed to supporting women in need.

Throughout her illustrious career Dr. Kelly has received numerous accolades including the Nassau County American Legion Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to academia and society. Her enduring commitment to education research and writing underscores her legacy as a scholar dedicated to making meaningful contributions to understanding history and culture.
