Additionally, he holds the position of chair at the Berkeley Camera Club and co-chair of Bay Area Entrepreneurs in Statistics. Prior to his current roles, Mr. Osborn led a long and impactful career at the East Bay Municipal Utility District, where he initially served as both a quality assurance officer and supervising chemist. His expertise was further recognized through his involvement with the Water Environment Federation, where he was a member of the editorial advisory board for Laboratory Solutions. Throughout this period, he also chaired the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater.
A distinguished expert in laboratory statistics, quality control and method detection limits, Mr. Osborn has made significant contributions to the field by writing protocols that guide laboratories in achieving mathematical accuracy and developing visual presentations for statistical concepts. One of his notable achievements includes creating an Excel program that simulates a bee swarm to illustrate these concepts.
Mr. Osborn's academic background laid a strong foundation for his professional achievements. He completed coursework in a doctoral program in biophysics at the National Institutes of Health, and previously earned a Master of Science in limnology from the University of California Davis in 1974, where he also obtained a teaching credential for secondary and community college in 1967. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from California State University-Sacramento in 1963.
Throughout his career, Mr. Osborn has been an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the Water Environment Federation Laboratory Committee, the American Chemical Society, and the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography. He also served as the founding chair of the Environmental Laboratory Technical Advisory Committee for ELAP and held various leadership roles within the California Water Environment Association during the 1990s.
Mr. Osborn's perseverance in the face of various challenges has been a driving force behind his success. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys photography and conducting science experiments. In addition to his endeavors, Mr. Osborn has contributed to civic-minded organizations such as Upward Spiral, through which he hopes to continue contributing his knowledge of digital noise.
