Mr. Malina is a distinguished senior software architect at the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where he has served since 2021. In this capacity, he supports development projects for the U.S. Air Force, the Missile Defense Agency, and the U.S. Navy. Mr. Malina is assigned to multiple projects and oversees tier-one vendors for government contracts. His expertise in real-time embedded software for complex machinery, missiles, and weapons has been instrumental in his professional success.

Before accepting his current position, Mr. Malina was a founding partner, president, and hands-on chief technology officer at Metadynamics Corporation from 1998 to 2021. During this time, he also provided consulting services as the chief technology officer for ExactShip LLC between 2005 and 2010. Earlier in his career, Mr. Malina was a hands-on vice president of engineering at ICOM, Rockwell Software, Rockwell Automation, from 1994 to 1998. He also found entrepreneurial success as the co-founder, vice president of engineering, and chief technology officer at Standard Automation and Control, Wonderware West, between 1990 and 1994.

Mr. Malina's career began with roles such as senior control systems engineer at Exxon Chemicals in its polymers division from 1988 to 1990 and as the vice president of systems engineering, manager of advanced automation, and senior project engineer at Rexnord Automation in its TXE division, between 1986 and 1988. His initial professional experience included serving as a senior research engineer at Exxon Research & Engineering from 1981 to 1986.

In preparation for his future, Mr. Malina earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering, summa cum laude, from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1981. His dedication to his field is further evidenced by his memberships in several industry-related organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the International Society of Automation. He is also a founding member of the OPC Foundation. Civically, Mr. Malina is actively involved in volunteer work with LGBTIA and neurodiversity groups.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Malina has contributed to significant publications and projects. He most notably co-authored "Naval Open Architecture Machinery Control Systems for Next Generation Integrated Power Systems" in 2012.

Mr. Malina's commitment to excellence has been recognized with AJ Awards, a John R. Slay Scholarship, and a Curator Board Scholarship. He attributes his success to genuine care for his missions and a commitment to doing what he believes is right.
