Marisa Isabel Avelar has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Ms. Avelar, a distinguished graphic designer and mixed media artist, has made significant contributions to the field of visual arts through her innovative designs and creative projects. Currently, she operates her own studio, Marisa Avelar Artwork and Design, where she continues to explore her passion for graphic design and mixed media art alongside her role as a senior graphic designer at the New York City Campaign Finance Board, a position she has excelled in since 2022.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Avelar held various key positions, showcasing her artistic expertise across various organizations. She served as an exhibition designer at the Smithsonian Institution from 2017 to 2022. Additionally, in 2010, she held a six-year post as a senior graphic designer at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Avelar worked as a designer at Live Nation Worldwide Inc. from 2009 to 2010 and as an art director at Adplex from 2007 to 2008. She began her professional journey as a production artist and designer at Stanford Financial Group from 2006 to 2007, following an internship at LockwoodCosta Design in 2006.

Ms. Avelar's academic background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis on Painting and Graphic Design from Georgia Southern University, where she graduated in 2005. During her time there, she was awarded the Betty Foy Sanders Scholarship in the Arts in 2004, which significantly contributed to her development as an artist. Beyond her education, Ms. Avelar attributes her success to hard work, good mentors and persistence.

As an artist, Ms. Avelar has produced a variety of notable works. A highlight among these is her solo exhibition at Houston gallery My Flaming Heart in 2012. Additionally, she made significant contributions to the publication "Drawing from Nature: Landscapes by Liebermann, Corinth, Slevogt" in 2010, which serves as a catalog of an exhibition held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas. In addition to her creative output, Ms. Avelar's commitment to artistry is further reflected in her active affiliation with the American Institute of Graphic Arts since 2007.

Among her many career highlights, Ms. Avelar is particularly proud of being recognized for designing a banner celebrating the Day of the Dead for the National Museum of the American Indian in lower Manhattan. This project was a significant honor as it allowed her to celebrate her culture and contribute to the museum's exterior of the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House.

Outside her career, Ms. Avelar enjoys attending art shows and Broadway performances, visiting botanical gardens and spending time with family and friends.
