Having begun his professional journey in Calcutta, India, in 1986, Dr. Paul was an assistant systems engineer at CMC Ltd. The following year, he moved to the U.S. He became a teaching assistant at the University of Maryland in College Park from 1986 to 1988 while pursuing his master's degree and became a research assistant from 1988-1992 during his doctoral research. While pursuing his PhD, Dr. Paul became an instructor at University College in College Park from 1989 to 1992. During this period, he also had the opportunity to intern at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, in 1991.
After earning his degrees, Dr. Paul joined AT&T Bell Laboratories full-time in 1992 as a member of the technical staff in Area 11 in Murray Hill and later in Holmdel, New Jersey, until 2001, with a brief stint as the Chief Technology Officer of a startup called Edgix based in New York during 2000-2001. He transitioned to Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs as a research and development director from 2001 to 2005. Dr. Paul's career continued to ascend when he became the associate vice president and general manager at Infosys in Bengaluru, India, between 2007 and 2011. Subsequently, he become a managing director and country head of Accenture Technology Labs in Bangalore from 2011 to 2015. This position allowed him to return to the U.S. and become a managing director for the organization in Houston, where he was highly successful between 2015 and 2016.
Over the next few years, Dr. Paul continued to thrive as the chief digital officer for the manufacturing, automobile and aerospace sectors at Wipro in Mountain View, California, from 2016 to 2020. He was then appointed as the chief executive officer of Almawiz Technologies between 2020 and 2021 before returning to Accenture as managing director until 2024.
Dr. Paul's academic background includes a Bachelor of Technology degree in electronics and telecommunications engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kharagpur, a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School, and a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Maryland.
Adding to his success, Dr. Paul's innovative work has earned him recognition as a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also active in the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM). In addition to his professional involvement, Dr. Paul actively supports the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Paul has been awarded numerous accolades. In 1997, he received the William R. Bennett Prize for the best original paper published in IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking. He also received the Schwarzkopf Prize for Technological Innovation in 2010 and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Reviews' Grand Challenges for India Award in 2011. Among other highlights, Dr. Paul received the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award from the New Jersey Research and Development Council in 2013 and a Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Kharagpur in 2015.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Paul has authored significant publications. His dedication to using technology for societal benefit is evident through his work empowering adolescent girls, improving the yield of crops for farmers, reducing the mortality rate of children, and eliminating blindness by early detection using a combination of digital technologies.
