Mr. Dukatz is a principal lab mechanician at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of California Berkeley (UC Berkeley), where he has served since 2021. With a career spanning over three decades, he has made significant contributions to the field of electronic engineering. In his current role, he is primarily responsible for teaching mechanical engineering students about safe machine tool operation and assisting with the manufacturing and design elements of their projects.

Prior to his tenure at UC Berkeley, Mr. Dukatz worked as an RF systems test engineer at Loon LLC from 2015 to 2021. During this period, he was instrumental in testing and validating radio frequency systems, ensuring their reliability and performance. From 2012 to 2015, he served as a hardware test engineer at gChips, where he focused on integrated circuit (IC) testing and validation.

Mr. Dukatz's earlier career includes a role as a senior staff engineer at Qualcomm-Atheros from 2011 to 2012, during which time he contributed to the development of advanced wireless communication technologies. Previously, he was an RF engineer at Atheros Communications Inc. from 2004 to 2011, and at Berkana Wireless from 2002 to 2004. Previously he worked at Intel Corporation as an RF engineer from 1997 to 2001, where he contributed to the design and development of one of the first fully integrated CMOS radio frequency integrated circuits (RFIC) sold on the consumer market.

One of Mr. Dukatz's most notable achievements has been co-authoring a patent for a single-chip direct-conversion transceiver in 1999. He was also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Mr. Dukatz attributes his success to his ability to adapt and continuously learn new things. As his career progresses, he recognizes the importance of evolving with engineering requirements and staying updated with advancing technology through continuous learning and practice.

Mr. Dukatz's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he graduated, summa cum laude, in 1991. His journey into the profession began in high school with valuable experience in metal shop, which led to a job as a machinist immediately after graduation. Midway through his machinist career, he decided to return to school to study electronics while working part-time as an automotive machinist.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Dukatz has contributed to several civic-minded organizations, including the Sempervirens Fund, Peninsula Open Space Trust, Doctors Without Borders and the Red Cross. These affiliations highlight his commitment to giving back to the community and supporting various causes.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Dukatz enjoys cycling, hiking, motorcycles, and reading. He also has a passion for building and tuning machines such as cars, motorcycles and bicycles. Looking ahead, he is eager to expand his skill set by learning, CNC machining, sheet metal work, and welding with the goal of applying these skills towards building his own bicycle or motorcycle in the future.
