As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Plumb is an accomplished author and historian with a distinguished career spanning several decades. He has made significant contributions to corporate and historical fields, demonstrating expertise in marketing and creative, compelling writing.

Initially joining General Electric as a marketing executive, Mr. Plumb worked for the organization from 1969 to 1996. During his tenure, he managed a federal government contract for the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, playing a crucial role in disseminating the alcohol report in the early 1970s. Mr. Plumb's efforts significantly shifted public perception and understanding of alcoholism and its treatment.

In 1997, Mr. Plumb joined Fannie Mae as a senior marketing manager, a position he held until 2005. At Fannie Mae, he spearheaded initiatives aimed at helping underserved populations, particularly African Americans and Hispanics, navigate the homeownership process. By creating informative websites, Mr. Plumb empowered individuals to build equity and achieve financial stability through homeownership.

After his retirement, Mr. Plumb pivoted, becoming an author and historian in Potomac, Maryland. His commitment to preserving history is evident through his numerous publications and projects illuminating pivotal moments in American history. Mr. Plumb's notable works include "Your Brother in Arms: A Union Soldier's Odyssey" in 2011, "The Better Angels: Five Women Who Changed Civil War America" in 2020, and "General Richard Montgomery: A Grateful Remembrance" in 2021. Additionally, his articles have been featured in various esteemed publications, such as The Washington Post and The Montgomery County Story Journal.

Mr. Plumb, following his undergraduate education where he received a Bachelor of Arts in history from the State University of New York at Buffalo, joined the U.S. Navy, serving as an ensign to lieutenant from 1964 to 1968. His military service instilled a sense of discipline and the ability to take calculated risks, which would later prove invaluable in his civilian career. After his naval service he earned a Master of Arts in journalism from Syracuse University in 1969.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Plumb is actively involved in several industry- and civic-related organizations, including the Army and Navy Club of Washington, D.C., the American Battlefield Trust, the Montgomery County Civil War Roundtable, the Civil War Round Table of the District of Columbia, the Montgomery County Historical Society and the Society of Civil War Historians. He is also a member of the Chevy Chase chapter of the Izaak Walton League and the Potomac Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Plumb's dedication to historical research has been recognized with a research grant from the Tawani Foundation. He attributes much of his success to the rigorous training he received during his studies and the opportunities organizations like GE and Fannie Mae provided. As he prepares for the future, Mr. Plumb aims to expand his current fiction work and transform one of his books into a one-person stage play that narrates a young man's experiences during the Civil War.
