TAMAROA, IL, August 22, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William "Bill" Hoback has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Bill Hoback is a seasoned professional with decades of experience in coal mining, mine safety and coal-related policy issues. His experience also spans development of advanced coal utilization projects, including nitrogen and sulfur emission controls and carbon capture and sequestration projects. After two decades as an active union coal miner, Bill transitioned into union leadership in 1996. After six years managing legislative affairs for the UMWA, in both Washington DC and Illinois, he transitioned again, this time taking on the role of deputy director of the State of Illinois' Office of Coal Development, where he oversaw a staff of six and a $20 million annual budget. After retiring from the Illinois state government in 2015, Bill elected to take on new challenges by joining the Advanced Energy Institute at Southern Illinois University.
Working as a researcher and energy project coordinator, Bill continued working on projects related to the economic impact of changing coal production, collaborating with Illinois power generators and coal producers to ensure mine worker safety, maximize economic benefits for companies, workers and communities throughout Illinois, while also minimizing environmental impacts of coal production and utilization.

Throughout his career, he has supported more than $8 billion in capital investment in energy facilities and new coal mines, performed extensive studies and seed work on intrastate and regional CO2 pipeline networks, and worked on the nation's first two U.S. EPA Class VI permits for the Archer Daniels Midland-Decatur and the FutureGen 2.0 carbon capture and injection projects.

He credits his success to his ability to work closely with a diverse array of legislators, community leaders, environmentalists and coal mining companies, always keeping in mind the way political decisions impact the lives of everyday people and the communities that they have built. Still looking toward the future, Bill is currently assisting in the development of an innovative agrivoltaic project aimed at harmonizing southern Illinois' unique agricultural industry with renewable energy production, creating new opportunities for both the energy producers and farmers.

Bill is a 47-year member of the United Mine Workers of America, married 49 years to wife Sarah, they have 3 children and 4 grand children.
