Before establishing himself professionally, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and international relations from Claremont McKenna College. Subsequently, Mr. Berger expanded his professional knowledge by completing an MBA in corporate finance at the University of California, Berkeley, and coursework toward a doctoral degree in financial reporting at New York University's Stern School of Business.

One of the most significant periods in Mr. Berger's career was his involvement with McKinsey during the Asian financial crisis of the late nineties and the turn of the century. He played a crucial role in restructuring the banking systems in Indonesia, Thailand, and Korea, which involved merging institutions, closing unsuccessful ones, and reviving the countries' banking systems. His work with the Central Bank of Indonesia in developing a long-term plan for its financial market and his invitation by Seoul's mayor to join the City's Financial Markets Commission are also standout moments in his career.
