Leveraging an extensive career in medicine, Dr. Hoffman was the medical director at Cardiopulmonary Associates of Martin Medical Group from 2010 to 2015, the president of Cardiopulmonary Associates of the Treasure Coast PA between 1991 and 2010, and the president of Treasure Coast Medical Specialists from 1985 to 1991. His earlier career saw him as the director of the department of industrial and preventive medicine at Saint Joseph's Hospital from 1981 to 1985, a physician in private practice specializing in internal medicine between 1980 and 1981, and a consultant for The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation from 1975 to 1980, where he also served as vice president from 1972 to 1975 and was actively engaged with its tropical disease program. Dr. Hoffman began his professional journey as a member of the technical staff at Bellcomm Inc. from 1966 to 1969 and then as a senior consultant at McKinsey & Company between 1969 and 1972.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Hoffman has been recognized for his contributions and expertise. He is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Hoffman was also elected a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Preventive Medicine, and the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

Highly educated, Dr. Hoffman earned a bachelor's degree in physics from Muhlenberg College in 1961 as valedictorian of his class. He then earned a master's degree in molecular biophysics and a Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology and biophysics from Yale University in 1963 and 1966, respectively. Additionally, Dr. Hoffman garnered a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami in 1977, followed by an internship and residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1980. Furthering his specialization, he completed fellowships in pulmonary disease at the Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in 1984 and critical care medicine and pulmonary disease at Geisinger Medical Center in 1985. Years later, Dr. Hoffman returned to college, earning a Master of Business Administration in health care administration, with honors, from the University of Miami in 2002.

Besides his education, Dr. Hoffman received certification in pulmonary diseases in 1986 and occupational and environmental medicine in 1987 from the American Board of Internal Medicine, occupational and environmental medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine in 1987, certification in critical care medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1989, national board certification in echocardiography in 2015, and board certification in cardiovascular computed tomography in 2018.

Dr. Hoffman's tenacity has been a cornerstone of his success, allowing him to achieve numerous accolades, such as the Physician Legacy Tribute Award from Saint Lucie Medical Center in 2008 and the Presidential Citation from the Society of Critical Care Medicine in 2024.
